Chief Executive Officer

Sean Hird is the founding CEO of Nemgenix which he established with Michael Jones in 2007. He is an experienced business executive and lawyer with 21 years commercial experience in the life science sector. Prior to co-founding Nemgenix Sean was Chief Operating Officer of the UK biotechnology company Inpharmatica Ltd for 7 years (now part of Galapagos NV). During that time Sean helped raise £55m of equity investment from Europe’s leading venture capital firms. Previous positions include General Counsel to the (NHS) government research centre at Porton Down, UK, and Head of Legal Affairs at the technology transfer arm of the UK charity 'Cancer Research UK'. This role encompassed commercialisation of the charity’s $100m+ pa research-spend. Sean qualified as a solicitor with international law firm Clifford Chance and went on to specialise in commercial and intellectual property law in private practice. He holds graduate degrees in Veterinary Biology and also Genetics and has a Ph.D in plant molecular biology from Cambridge University. Sean is a Scientific Fellow of the London Zoological Society.

Matt Callahan

Matt Callahan is an experienced entrepreneur and lawyer with over 18 years of legal and business experience in the US, Australia and Germany. Matt was the founding CEO of nano-pharmaceuticals company iCeutica Inc which was recently sold to private investors in the UK. He now leads the operations of the company from the US where iCeutica has its corporate and R&D headquarters. Matt is also a partner of Australian venture capital firm Stone Ridge Ventures investing in life sciences, industrials, resources technologies and other companies. Previous positions held include General Manager and General Counsel for listed technology commercialisation company ipernica Limited (ASX:IPR) and founding CEO of Dimerix Bioscience Pty Ltd and Glycan Biosciences Inc. Matt is also currently a non-executive director of Australian start-ups Orthocell Pty Ltd and Matteo Mining.

Sofie de Wolf

Sofie De Wolf


Sofie is a qualified accountant with international experience in investment fund accounting and fund reporting. Originally from Belgium, she started her financial career in Dublin (Ireland) where she worked for Citco Fund Services and AIB/BNY Fund Management as a fund accountant and fund reporting supervisor, responsible for the accounting and reporting function of various types of funds. Sofie is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), receiving the silver medal for achieving the 2nd highest mark worldwide in her final accounting exams. She also holds a Master in Business Studies from University College Dublin where she graduated with first class honours, and a Master in Applied Economics from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium). In 2009, Chartered Secretaries Australia Ltd awarded her the joint Dux prize for the Applied Corporate Law exam.
